Product owner, developer, and ops are becoming one role

I think this new AI-assisted era is merging many roles into one hybrid role. One role to handle product ownership, development, and operations.

I’m starting to think the traditional distinction between product owner, software developer, and operations is going away. I suspect these roles are going to be merged into one product builder role. Maybe the new role will be product engineer, or maybe product owner will be redefined to encompass all three roles.

I think the traditional developer role is going to be phased out.

Agent assistance makes it possible for one person to take on all three roles, so I think that’s what’s coming.

The bigger question is, how does that change the employment dynamic? Software companies can probably make do with just a handful of poeple.

Additionally, if I am a product engineer, why would I build for someone else? Why not just build the thing for myself?

It seems like sales, marketing, and distribution become the bottleneck rather than building the product.
